Leading Beyond Yourself, bringing others along with You!

Leading beyond yourself and bringing others along with you is the ultimate art of leadership. If you want to lead beyond yourself you must move yourself out of the way! I have found in my 25 plus years in a leadership role and managing people at every level, that this chapter will provide you with the tools, skills, and techniques to lead others beyond yourself. In addition, coaching, guiding, training, facilitating and designing/developing leadership curriculum, that there are leaders who truly believe they are the center of the universe. Not true! Leaders, great leaders realize that they are to inspire others to get to where they need to be. That is, allowing others to rise to their full potential of leadership. Great leaders are those who recognize they are to afford other voices, thinking and ideas to come before their voice. People need to know that they are being heard. People need to know that their ideas are being recognized. People need to know that they have a part and most importantly, a significant part in the process. Bringing others along with you, is getting them to trust you enough to want to follow or better yet go along with you and ‘reflect’ you! Remember leaders, you must not categorize everyone the same. It is important to keep in mind and in the forefront that people are individuals and will need to be brought in to the fold in a unique manner with the focus being when they are ready. That will mean that leaders will be required to know their audience! Leaders need to be accountable to those whom they are responsible for and too. Accountable to the point of always observing and knowing what makes them tick. What motivates them, and how they may continue to meet them where they are. Meeting people where they are will always be the principle leadership characteristic that will set you apart.
